Our inner energy, the Kundalini, travels throughout our body by way of three energy channels, or nadis in Sanskrit. The three nadis are the left channel, the right channel and the center channel.
All three work perfectly together to integrate and balance our inner energy. Each also plays a specific role in maintaining our emotions, moods, physical health and mental wellbeing.
We also have seven energy centers or chakras along these channels. Our inner energy rises from the base of our spine and travels upwards, through our channels and chakras.
Our left energy channel (called Ida nadi in Sanskrit), also known as the moon channel, begins at the first chakra, Mooladhara, and travels up the left side of our body, terminating in the superego area on the right side of our brain.
Our left energy channel influences emotions, feelings and desires. It is also connected to memories, past experiences, habits and conditionings.
While emotions, desires and our past experiences are integral to our existence; excess indulgence with them can tend to make us feel gloomy, moody, and even lethargic.
It's best to balance ourselves with meditation and start to feel the joy of the present moment.
Our right energy channel (called Pingala nadi in Sanskrit), also called the sun channel, begins at our second chakra, Swadisthan, and travels up the right side of our body, terminating in the ego area on the left side of our brain.
Our right energy channel influences our ability to plan and take action. It is connected with our sense of individualism and drives us for performing physical and mental activity.
While, this dynamic energy is essential for life; excess of thinking and action can play a role in generating negative emotions such as anger, irritability and stress.
It's best to balance our responsibilities and reduce overthinking and worries of the future through meditation.
Our central energy channel (called Sushumna nadi in Sanskrit), also called the middle path, travels from the sacrum bone at the base of our spine (where our Inner Energy, Kundalini, resides) straight up our spine towards the seventh chakra, Sahasrara.
Our central energy channel is the channel that aids our spiritual growth and is about being in the present, here and now.
When we are constantly in balance, our central channel remains clear. This paves the way for our inner energy, the Kundalini, to rise smoothly to the Sahasrara chakra.
