Inner energyKundaliniWe are all born with our own inner energy system that nurtures and protects our mind, body and soul. In fact, the word Sahaja actually means, 'Born with'. At the time of our birth, the inner energy passed through our brain to create a vast, intricate system of energy channels and centers throughout our central nervous system.
Thereafter, it lies dormant in the sacrum, the large, triangular bone at the base of the spine (sacrum coming from the word ‘sacred’). This energy is known in Sanskrit as Kundalini – literally 'coiled' – because it is curled up in three and a half spirals. |
Awakening of inner energy Self-realisationThe Kundalini, lays dormant, waiting to be awakened, so it can travel through the energy channels and centers to manifest their true qualities and inner peace within us.
The awakening of this energy or Kundalini is called self-realisation, our first encounter with our true self, gained through meditation. When the Kundalini is awakened, it rises up the spine and comes out through the fontanelle area - the part of the head which is soft in babies. When the Kundalini passes through this area it can be perceived as a cool breeze, as if it were pouring out of a fountain. Fontanelle derives from the Old French for 'little fountain', which no longer seems like a coincidence in the light of this experience. |
